EMby Enzo Mari

Enzo Mari’s Autoprogettazione includes seven remarkable table designs, but this one stands out as our favorite. Its bold truss structure, forming the backbone of the table, evokes the engineering brilliance of scaffolds, bridges, and even the Eiffel Tower. This striking feature is what makes the design so unique and captivating.

While it might not be the most refined or efficient design, it’s hard to resist the urge to roll up your sleeves and start building it yourself. That’s exactly what Mari intended—every piece in Autoprogettazione is designed to be both an invitation and a guide, empowering users to engage directly with the process of making.

The base of the table is constructed from small, simple beams originally sized at 50x25mm, though our parametric model makes it easy to customize these dimensions. This flexibility is perfect for upcycling leftover beams or repurposing materials you already have. Adjusting the table’s dimensions might alter its original proportions, but it opens up endless possibilities—from dining tables to coffee tables and even exhibition furniture. Use the configurator to explore and create a version that fits your space and aesthetic preferences.

Building the table requires plenty of sawing, so a miter saw can speed things up, but even a basic saw will do. The tabletop, originally made from 25x200mm planks, allows for some creative freedom. Using different board sizes or materials can save time and money while adding a touch of personal flair.

To prevent any bending, be sure to add extra support beams running perpendicular to the truss. For assembly, use nails or screws slightly shorter than twice the beam thickness—for example, 45mm screws for 25mm boards.

Finally, don’t forget the most important part: invite some friends over to help build and celebrate by sharing a meal at your new table.
