A stick frame timber wall is a simple and flexible construction method, using vertical wooden studs connected by horizontal beams called plates. This design became popular in the 19th century and remains a top choice for building and renovating homes due to its ease and versatility.
The studs are spaced evenly - mostly corresponding to board standard widths - allowing materials like insulation to fit between them. This flexibility makes stick frame walls perfect for everything from small sheds to large multi-story homes. It’s also easy to run plumbing and wiring through the open spaces.
Stick frame walls are lightweight yet strong, making them faster to construct and transport compared to masonry or concrete walls. Plus, timber is a renewable resource, making this one of the most sustainable building methods available.
Our configurator generates customizable timber wall designs based on general standards and calculates key metrics such as weight, cost, and insulation value. For those interested in eco-friendly construction, we’ve also included an estimate of the ecological impact of insulation materials, measured in kg CO₂ equivalent.
Please remember to follow local building codes and verify the accuracy of the results before proceeding with your project.
